The surprising palmtree : After the 90’s got involved with Palm trees cultivation becoming one of the pioneer promoters of the “bactris gasipaes” palm tree variety, that made possible the expansion of this cultivation that became very important for Costa Rica and an engine for the local economy. GrupoVAJ owns one of the top10 private owned palm farms in the world, industrializing and exporting canned food under private labels high end markets in Europe, U.S.A and Latin America.

Housing and Residences : Since then, GrupoVAJ inaugurated additional branches of business, such as the land developments with Residential Projects in cities as Heredia, Alajuela (settled in the Central Valley), Guapiles (in the Atlantic lands) and Perez Zeledon at the south of the country.

The Industrial Division : Today, GrupoVAJ owns the only Coffee Roasting Factory in Palmitos de Alajuela, which industrializes coffee from the different areas of our farms (Tarrazu, Naranjo, Heredia and Atenas) with the most advanced machinery, strict controls in all production phases in the processing lines and highly qualified human labour care. The industry for canned fruits/vegetables is producing not only palm hearts, but also pineapple, caribbean roots such as ready to eat cassava and others.

Environmentaly Friendly: Our know-how as well as our lands in Costa Rica - which is considered to be “the rich land”-, guarantee top quality standards, as our cultivations take place in the natural habitat, and the harvest is realized at the right stage of ripening, preserving their original flavours.  We have even protected pieces of our own farms in order to preserve for the future generations the primary wild forest.  The agronomic cultivation of these savage palm trees eliminated the harvest directly from the forest, allowing the nature preservation.

Global Standards: The exportation brought consciousness to GrupoVAJ and since 2004 is working under the HACCP practices, during this 2010 is working in the certification of the ISO 22000 and has been also awarded with the Kosher certificate.  The Rainforest Alliance and Coffee Practices are an additional “credit”, that makes the company most competitive and reliable in the international market.
